Reflection
I decided to publish this assignment to my ePortfolio, because I felt like more conveyed how much I enjoy the Criminal Justice system. Since Criminal Justice is my major, I decide to write my paper about something that truly interested me. This paper felt like how a college paper should be written and sound with word choice. The topic of burned human remains is quite the controversial topic because the burned bones can be undistinguishable from other burned objects. I learned so much in researching this topic, like how when your tissue is still attached to your bone that it’s called “Green Bone” and the process of burning green bones take a lot longer because you have to burn though all of the flesh still before you can even get down to the bone.
I felt like this assignment demonstrated by knowledge of the SLCC learning goals, because I had to communicate my research that I had discovered about the topic and my thoughts on it. I was amazed on how much I actually learned, about how the human skeletal system can be so telling for Forensic anthropologists. Like when I talked about how the sciatic notch is larger in women than in men, because their pelvic bone is so much wider. You could only fit your pinky finger into the notch on males, but a women’s is three times that size. For age estimation the texture of the pelvis can be very beneficial. This paper caused me to think critically about how much trouble a murderer has to go through in order to cover their tracks, so they won’t be caught. I do believe that if asked to convey what I learned from researching and writing this paper, I would be able to properly show exactly what I have learned and how fascinating the human skeletal system really is. Even in death your identity is not lost, your story can still be heard.
